Goodreads Synopsis

He gave up his soul for a second chance to love her...
Two and a half centuries ago, Calisto Terana lost everything when a zealous priest murdered the woman he loved. Now, desperate for another chance to love her, he wants redemption for the mistake that cost her life.
She's haunted by dreams of her own death...
After catching her fiance with another woman, Kate Bradley returns to San Diego to clear her head. The last thing she needs is romance, but after meeting Calisto she's drawn to him in ways she doesn't understand.
They've waited in the shadows for centuries...
Calisto has no doubt Kate is the reincarnation of his lost love, but the Fraternidad Del Fuego Santo has a new watcher with dark ambitions of his own. As old enemies reemerge and a new threat arises, the betrayal that enslaved Calisto to the night might destroy the only woman he's ever loved again.

My Review

I had many expectations for this book; for the most part I tend to prefer first person narrative because it helps me get into the story and get to know more about the main character, however Night Walker is written in third person point of view and grabbed me since page one. Not many author are capable to convey so much emotion on this type of narration but Lissa Kessler did and with flying colors.
The star-crossed love story has being done any number of times, but not quite like this, I loved the fact that Calisto, the male lead on this book; has been mourning for his lost love for over 200 years, he´s haunted by guilt and memories of Tala and lives wondering what may have been. The pain of losing her it´s what drives him to embrace immortality for a chance to meet her again.
Calisto is one of the best renditions I’ve found of a strong powerful character, he practically holds the book together on his own.
Strange as it may seem I couldn´t connect with Kate as I did with Calisto, she´s a normal woman, nothing extraordinary about her other than the fact that, she is a reincarnation of Calisto´s long lost love; guess what?  I love that!!!, I always tend to connect with the female side of the story but in this case it was all about Calisto, that’s a new one for me and I really like it.
This book has a lot of dark subject though; rape, murder and just plain deviant sexuality. This a very mature read in content but a very good read none the less.
What I liked the most about this book is that it could easily be a standalone or part of a series, the story is so perfectly weaved together that at the end you have this sense of fulfillment but at the same time you want to keep reading more about Calisto, Kate and the world around them.
